We’ve all had the experience of needing to shorten or lengthen the legs of our pants. In this four hour workshop, we will learn techniques for six different hems: a double fold hem, a blind hem by machine and by hand, a roll hem, a faced hem, and a denim hem.
All practice materials will be provided. There will be time for questions participants are welcome to bring personal pants and hems about which they have questions.
About the instructor:
Barbara Abbott is an educator with 19 years’ experience as costume designer and sewist for theatre. From pattern making, to historical corsetry, millinery to magical teacups, Barbara has a broad range of experience in the costume shop. In recent years, she has discovered a love of hand sewing as a means of making art, creatively maintaining clothing items she loves, and slowing down in a busy world. Barbara loves sharing her knowledge, skill, and love for the craft, blending patience, good humor, and the mantra that mistakes give us opportunities for creative solutions.
